I have been a big fan of social bookmarking ever since tag and ping first went live 2 or 3 years ago and like most areas of internet and online marketing the whole concept has continually evolved at a phenomenal rate. There are new Social bookmarking sites appearing every day and with the advent of pligg a free open source bookmarking site creator it is not only the big boys and companies who are creating these sites but the ordinary bloke or girl in the street too.

But for me the biggest change is the sheer scope involved now. Back when tag and ping first came out you could get incredible results from just adding tags to acouple of sites, notably technorati and deliscious. Now due to the fact every man and his dog are using social bookmarks the effort involved is much greater. Bookmarking 3 or 4 sites with one account is basically going to get you nowhere.

So how can you use social bookmarking effectively? There are 2 ways, unless you want to spend 8 hrs a day doing it yourself, outsourcing and automated software or services. Now both these methods will work but what you have to decide is how much you want to do. This obviously depends on how many sites, blogs, sales pages etc you have and how well you want them bookmarked.

Personally all my social bookmarking is done with software. There are several great software packages out there that have different levels of automation, different results and different costs! I use 3 and for different purposes. I’ll give you a quick rundown.

Social Bookmarking Demon is now released in a beta format as there have been huge changes since version 3 and the new release looks very promising indeed. It allows you to bookmark to most of the top sites and more importantly it allows you to add scuttleplus sites, scuttle sites and with what I said earlier in mind Pligg sites! I use this primarily for bookmarking single pages especially if I am promoting a product as an affiliate. Whack up a review page with the product name as a keyword and bookmark it across all the sites you have accounts on, more about accounts later.

Auto Social Poster is a fully automated plug in for wordpress blogs. You upload the plug in to your blog. Activate it. Fill in your account details, add keywords to the tag list, set the number of sites you want to post to each time and then every time a new post is made either manually or automatically it bookmarks it. How clever is that. Set and forget for sure!

The last piece of social bookmarking software I use is RSS Bookmarker . This really is the grandaddy of them all and sorry but the price reflect that. This is a script you upload to your server/domain. You fill in your account details like asp and then you add all the sites you want to bookmark. And here is where it gets really clever. It works using your sites rss feed, so if you are lazy you just add your normal blog feed. But what if you aren’t lazy or are wanting to bookmark html sites with no feed?

Well the answer is it comes with an add on called rss generator which not only allows you to create full rss feeds for stativ html and ecommerce sites but if you are willing to spend an extra 5 mins you can create a feed for your blogs too. Why? Because your normal blog feed only shows the 10 20 or so blog posts but if you have a site with hundred of post its only going to bookmark the most recent ones. Using the rss generator you can create a feed which contains every post ever made on the blog and that is where the real power is.

So what happens when you have put all the info in? You set up your cron and rss bookmarker will go out and post how ever amny times you want it to and to as many sites. You can select to have it bookamrk all your posts once or you can loop it and have it continue working for ever! Absolutley phenomenal! The one downside is you will have to have a multiple accounts on each bookmarking site to make this really effective.

Now the really boring part about effective social bookmarking is creating the accounts. As mentioned to be effective and profitable from social bookmarking now you HAVE to have multiple accounts on each social bookmarking site. Personally I haven’t created an account in over a year but have over 1000 accounts altogether. I started manually but it was leading me to get a shrink. Then I tried a few of the automated options but there was just too many failures and there isn’t a single one I would recommend.

So I turned to outsourcing. This too can be fraught with danger as many of these outsourcers will create hundreds of accounts every day using the same ip! Talk about asking to get banned. Also many of them are in the sub continent where work is cheap but again the big SB sites are starting to catch on and are banning many accounts created there. So if you go to scriptlance etc to get this done make sure they are using proxies and a lot of them! If they say huh? when you ask about what proxies they use, say bye bye.

I get all my accounts created by one service now. The guy running it just dropped out of school to do this full time and the service is second to none I have used. It’s fast usually within 24 hrs. He uses literally thousands of proxies all US, UK or Europe based. I have yet to have an account go south using his service and that alone is worth the price. You can check it out below and no this is not an affiliate link. He does not charge enough to make an affiliate program worthwhile so I am doing this purely as a thank you for his excellent service.

Social Bookmarking Accounts creation service.

So there you go. If you want to get into social bookmarking (and you should) be prepared to fork out some cash initially if you really want to succeed. You will recoup any costs incredibly quickly.
